What is going on at Dozy Dog?
The story behind Dozy Dog (I’ll keep it brief) is that it was established in 1988, but I bought it as a going concern in August 2017. When I took over (with zero experience or knowledge!), I re-built the website, re-branded (keeping the name) and re-vamped all the show display equipment. Huge investment. Even huger learning curve!
Over the last two years, I have learnt enough to know that there has to be a better way of doing this. Every time we receive a delivery of products, they’re all wrapped in plastic and have been cross continent shipped with little or no thought for the impact on the environment.
At home, we’re as eco friendly as we can be and are constantly looking to make small changes, one step at a time. So why was I then being a cog in an industry with one of the worst morals/ethics?!?
So, I’m in the process of changing over Dozy Dog to ‘Dozy Dog – The Eco Pet Shop’. We are due to launch in the new year and have booked our space at the UK’s only (so I’m told) holistic Dog event at Stoneleigh on 5th April as our launch event.
Already, we only stock ethical food and treats, only use recycled or degradable packaging and already stock a number of eco toys, UK made beds & blankets and 100% eco dog shampoo. But that’s not enough.
The website will change over January and we will be making a number of our own items as well as buying in ONLY ethical products for Pets.
Why am I risking my currently successful business model?!?I’m most certainly not doing this just from a business point of view, but from the view of educating the general public that there IS a better way and it doesn’t have to cost the earth (so to speak).
So, big changes are afoot. And you, our customers, are what matters. You can help make a difference to our world! For this, I (along with many others) am grateful.
