Jerry’s Morning Has Broken
I’m watching her closely, she’s drunk up her tea
I’ve been in the garden and done my first pee
I’m watching her going up the stairs to get dressed
I’ll follow to see what she’s going to do next
“Shake a leg” she yells to the snoring old man
I go to his side to defend if I can
He doesn’t do early if left on his own
He opens his eyes and I hear his first groan
I’m watching her shower, it’s so steamy in there
She’s taking her time and she hasn’t a care
I‘m waiting and itching to go for my walk
To get all the gossip and read all the talk
There’s Barney and Biffa and Bruno and Bryn
Their smells are all different – I get in a spin
Sniffing them out to see who got there first
It’s just so exciting I think I might burst
It’s hair drying time, I so hate the hot blow
It’s taking too long, she can’t possibly know
I have to get out there, I’m trying not to panic
I’m a dog in a rush and need to go manic
The old man’s sat up now and started to chatter
My needs are ignored, I just don’t seem to matter
She’s promised him tea and some hot buttered toast
Perhaps he can wait as I need her the most
I’m watching her go down the stairs in her clothes
I notice her feet, I can still see her toes
Oh no! She’s forgotten to put on her feet
Soft socks and hard shoes for walking the street
Expecting she’ll notice she made a mistake
I follow her into the kitchen and wait
She’s making the tea and there’s clattering plates
And still she’s not noticed that I’m in dire straits
I’m watching her doing things for him and not me
It’s really not fair as I am her priority
I’m staying quite calm but I just slipped a whinge
She tells me “five minutes and then we can binge”
I’m watching her closely, her socks are in view
I’m containing myself but she must find a shoe
Oh darn it! I took one so now I’m in trouble
I really must find one quick, on the double
Two shoes she has got, and her coat from the hall
Some poo bags, her phone, my lead and a ball
So, now I am waiting and bridling my glee
It’s nearly my time for sniffing each tree
We’re out of the door. At last, it’s fresh air
A sky that is clear and a hedge that’s still bare
The smell on the gatepost is from a new pooch
Who dared to do that? I’ll just have to mooch
She’s watching me now as I pee on the verge
I’m looking around to see who may emerge
I look to the left and I look to the right
Oh no! It’s the bulldog who gives me a fright
She’s watching me now and I’m really quite scared
That bulldog’s got fangs that are usually bared
And ready to nip me and call me bad names
Thank goodness! Here’s Ben with the lovely James
There’s Pippa, she’s gorgeous, as good as a dollar
A bow in her hair and a sparkly collar
She loves me I know so I strut and I whistle
She leaves me a message to read, on a thistle
I do love the ivy, the holly and laurel
Daisies and clover and dock she calls sorrel
The evergreen leaves can hold best the scent
But privet can tell me who came and who went
We’ve done our short walk to welcome the day
And later we’ll go to the park for more play
With Harry and Enzo and Molly and Mark
There’ll be treats and bright balls – I so love the park
She’s watching me now and I’m home for a rest
I’ll head for the sofa, the view is the best
I’m watching her now and she’s making more tea
She’ll come and sit down, making more time for me
